The parks of Brussels are going blue!

Selective blue bins

In the park too, we avoid waste and sort it!

Gradually, sorting bins are being installed in our favourite parks to recycle our PMC waste (plastic, metal and beverage cartons).

As soon as the sun appears, we take advantage of the good weather to organise a picnic in the park. The trick to a clean and waste-free park? Take along your water bottles, mugs, cups and reusable boxes with your homemade snacks...

Even if you have the right containers, it's not always possible to avoid waste. But the good news is that from now on you can sort your plastic, metal and drink cartons in almost 15 Brussels parks: Laeken, Senne, Gaucheret, Bon Pasteur, Albert, Marie-José, Porte de Ninove, Georges-Henri, Fleuriste de Stuyvenberg, Scheutbos, Vogelzang, Roi Baudouin and Tenbosch.

Less waste, more recycling

Every year, some 400 tonnes of waste are generated in the regional parks. Thanks to the selective blue bins, you can help to reduce this waste. In 2022, more than 220m³ of PMC waste was diverted from incineration and put back into the cycle to be transformed into new products. In the coming years, this sorting will be extended to more green spaces in Brussels. We are counting on you to use these new bins, respecting the sorting instructions clearly indicated on each bin.

Green

This project, supported by Bruxelles Environnement, is part of measure 13: "Optimising the maintenance and installation of public litter bins and other street furniture relating to urban cleanliness, and defining the models to be recommended in the Brussels-Capital Region according to how public spaces are used. The possibility of using a regional purchasing centre for potentially interested municipalities will be studied.", and measure 15: "Intensifying communication about alternatives to single-use food packaging, with a view to reducing litter, in particular by promoting reusable water flasks and containers, for example during events and weekly markets."
